Love is Blindness

"Love is blindness, I don't want to see
Won't you wrap the night, around me
Oh my heart
Love is blindness

In a parked car, in a crowded street
You see your love, made complete
Thread is ripping, the knot is slipping
Love is blindness..."

Are you waiting for Gatsby? Me too...but Gatsby? What Gatsby? ;)

Old Man and The Sea

He looked across the sea and knew how alone he was now. But he could see the prisms in the deep dark water and the line stretching ahead and the strange undulation of the calm. The clouds were building up now for the trade wind and he looked ahead and saw a flight of wild ducks etching themselves against the sky over the water, then blurring, then etching again and he knew no man was ever alone on the sea.

Vogue Festival 2013

It's not often you get to go somewhere and have such a great time you don't want to come back. My last trip to London was exactly like that. I got to see the David Bowie exhibition in the V&A as well as a couple of events at the Vogue Festival. When I am saying events, I am probably not doing any justice to what actually happened. Event 1 was a conversation with Victoria Beckham and event 2 with Mario Testino. When I say conversation, I don't mean me talking to them, even though that would have been ideal. What I mean is an audience in a beautiful room of the Southbank Centre listening to two people talking about their passion for fashion and photography. Even though, the conversation with Beckham was a little too staged for me, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It was Mario Testino though, who stole my heart in a flash. Genuine, humble and super friendly, he was a great inspiration to listen to. And then, there was the beautiful Garance Doré (second pic below), who has been a massive blogging and photography inspiration to me before I even started blogging http://www.garancedore.fr/en/. And all this, in a super sunny London. It screams perfect weekend to me.

Fantastyczna wystawa David Bowie w V&A i Vogue Festival w Southbank Centre.

Plastic

Those who know me, are well aware of the fact that I love plastic and I love tacky (well, to some extent anyway). Plastic shoes, plastic bags, plastic jewellery, you name it and I will want to have it. I miss the 80-ties and 90-ties quite a lot so every time I have a chance, I try to wear something that brings those years back just a little bit. This time, it is the perspex bag and the cross earrings. If I ever find a plastic dress, it will be mine ;).

Ci, którzy mnie znaja, doskonale wiedza, że lubię plastik i kicz. Plastikowe buty, torebki, biżuteria, wymieniać można długo, a ja będę dodawać do listy zakupów.

The Wind That Shakes Yer Aul One...

I remember always loving to play this game of randomly changing titles of films or books. Not many are good at it, but once you come up with something good, it stays with you forever and you become an instant hero. Irish sense of humour is definitely one to be admired. Just to give you an example, imagine a day like this: you wake up late, on the way into work, you cycle into a massive, dirty poodle which leaves you looking like a human dalmatian. Work is shit, lunch uneatable and the wind is howling outside. You're so pissed off, you're ready to get out there and kill... Would you crack a joke in that moment? No. Do you know who would? The Irish. Anyway, it obviously was an Irish person who came up with The Wind That Shakes Yer Aul One and they could not have been more accurate...what does that have to do with this blog? Probably nothing, but it was bloody windy when we were doing the shoot... ;)

A tymczasem zwiewam...

Every girl has a bag...

Every girl has a bag. It might be the bag she has been dreaming of for a long time, or it might be the bag that she has no choice but to have, and to love. One thing is certain, every girl and every bag has a secret and the only way you can find out is to look inside. Here is what you can find in my bag...

1. F. Scott Fitzgerald - The Great Gatsby. It's no big secret that everyone is waiting for this film. I am waiting too, hence I decided to re-read this fabulous classic while travelling every day to work. Mind you, I do get distracted by someone digging an umbrella into my behind or a whinging child but I am trying...

2. I phone in a fancy I phone cover. Needs no explanation really, the blessing and the curse of modern society, it found its place in my bag too.

3. Random rings. Perfect things to lose and get angry about.

4. Vaseline lippy. An absolute must in the tropical Irish weather if you don't want your lips to look like a wrinkled dog. You never know when you might get to kiss your Prince Charming in Coppers* (not)...

5. Narciso Rodriguez - For Her. Very seductive smell, not recommended for the day if you don't want to handle crowds of Ryan Goslings trying to get it on with you (I mean seriously, what fool would want that?!)

6. Dr Irena Eris - Vita Ceric BB Cream. I am not a huge fan of heavy foundations that aggravate your skin rather than improve it, hence BB creams are a perfect solution for me. This one is super light and smells gorgeous which makes things even easier.

7. Tom Ford Violet Fatale lippy. This lippy is so perfectly soft and rich that once you have it on, you want to snog yourself. Yeah, do let me know if you manage that....

8. & Other Stories earrings. An emergency dose of jewellery in case you need to have an unplanned session and there is NO WAY you can get home and change. Also, they look like something you can potentially eat, so they might stop you from visiting the chipper** at 4 a.m...

9. ROC hydrating mini cream. Hydrate from the inside, hydrate from the outside girls. I always tend to carry a mini cream in case my skin gets a little too dry.

10. Lancome Hypnose STAR mascara. The best mascara in my books. It's the blackest black and lasts all day without leaving funny crumbles under the eyes.

11. Benetton vintage glasses. I really love old fashioned glasses so these were a must have for me. The frames are actually from the 70ties which makes them really precious.

12. Inglot nail polish no. 991. It's the bluest blue you can imagine. Yes, you have to imagine because you clearly cannot see because I stupidly decided to put a black and white pic....

13. Hermés - Jour d'Hermés. Summer in a bottle. Picture that day you go into a blossoming garden on a beautiful summer's evening.... yes, it smells exactly like that.

Glossary:

*Coppers - for all non-Irish readers, a super popular nightclub on Harcourt St. in Dublin. A night time visit to its premises guarantees a random snog with someone possibly 15 years younger than you, a lost bank card and a fair dose of embarrassment. Nonetheless, the place gets packed every night...

**Chipper a.k.a. Fish and Chips usually owned by an Italian Family (Luigi's, Gino's etc.). The chipper is like your best friend - right there when you need them i.e. at 3 a.m. when you are so drunk you're dribbling instead of talking. In Ireland, the chipper is often confused with home....

Please note, the things in my bag are subject to change as I please. Also, they are not in any order near to the one presented on the pic.. :)

"I don't wanna be a poet, cuz I don't wanna blow it,

dans la ville

If you can, go and see the latest Ozon's film Dans La Maison because you will laugh. You will probably laugh a lot even at the things one should not normally laugh. And yes I am tempted to reveal the plot to you right now but I have trained myself to resist the temptation. This is really good of me ;). This very film inspired me to put together the outfit I am wearing in this post. How did it inspire me, you might ask? Well, I don't really know, which is the best thing about it. Don't you just love how your everyday experiences shape your mood, thoughts, and finally the clothes you wear?  Sometimes, your inspirations are easily identifiable and sometimes not. Sometimes, you might prefer to be inspired by something else but all that matters is that you always remain truthful to who you really are...

made out of Steele

Recently, I got to chat to the lovely Helen Steele, who is an absolutely fabulous Irish designer producing one of a kind, stand out pieces, based on abstract prints of all sorts. Just imagine a donkey on acid (in the best possible meaning) and there you have one of Helen's designs. She is as inspirational as her work and is a pleasure to be around with. In this post, I am wearing one of the oversized tees created from live video performance art. On its tag it says "It is a limited edition print and a unique work of art" and it couldn't be more accurate. Make sure you do check out her website http://www.helensteele.com and join me in drooling while waiting for her new collection ;).
